Emil Johnsen er kjent for sine mange sterke sceneprestasjoner og roller de seneste årene ved både Nationaltheatret og Det Norske Teatret. Emil har også spilt i over 30 Film og TV produksjoner i Norge og Sverige, og har nylig også spilt en av hovedrollene i en spillefilm i USA. Han har vunnet og vært nominert til flere priser både for sine sceneprestasjoner 

(Heddaprisen, Kritikerprisen) og sine roller i Film og TV (Rising Star, Stockholm Film Festival, Jean Carment Award Best Male Actor, Frankrike).

Emil vokste opp i Botswana, Afrika med Engelsk mor, Norsk far og fem eldre søsken.

Etter noen år hjemme i Oslo, flyttet han til New York og studerte der ved Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

Fra New York, flyttet han til Sverige og gikk Teaterhögskolan.  Etter endt utdannelse jobbet han som skuespiller i Stockholm i åtte år med Film, TV og Teater, blant annet ved SVT og Dramaten. 

 

I Sverige gjorde han seg bemerket som den unge Morgan i den svenske klassikeren, Staffan Göthes «En uppstoppad Hund» og med sine hovedroller i de kritikerroste spillefilmene «Behandlingen» og «Isolerad», som ledet han til at han ble Rising Star ved Stockholm Internasjonale Film Festival.

Samarbeidet med Goksøyr og Martens ved Nationaltheatret, først i «Salong», så i «Foreldremøte», ledet han tilbake til Oslo, hvor han har bodd og arbeidet siden 2012
